Made it here. Lovely, lovely drive — perfect weather. Took a lot longer than Yahoo said it would, though (and I wasn't dawdling, and the traffic was fine). Upstate New York reminds me of rural Illinois where I grew up — the terrain isn't as flat, but there are barns and grain silos and cows. And while I was looking for the conference center I discovered that Cornell has a livestock pavilion. It's a far cry from where I work in the heart of Boston. :-)

That sounds like a useful conference. I think you and I must have similar jobs, since I manage a lab at BU. I hope you learn lots of cool stuff. :)

I’m a Unix sysadmin; I manage machines in labs, but I don’t actually manage labs themselves. I’m here basically because I’m interested in using radmind to manage Linux and Solaris machines, and some of the people here use it for Mac labs, and because I’m interested (in a down-the-road sort of way) in how to integrate MacOS X machines into a more traditional Unix/Linux network.

What group at BU do you work for? I used to work for IT Central Systems (which has probably since changed its name :-), about ten years ago.

I'm one of the support folks for Sargent. We mostly deal with Windows machines, unfortunately. I'd love to get the experience you're getting. Hope you're having fun there. hitori_photo took me to a great bar there. I wish I could remember the name...it's on that hill, close to the top. It probably had an Irish name. Anyway, the food was amazing and the bartender was a totally sweet guy. Ah well, they'll probably be wining and dining you there, anyway.
