So here’s a little more detail about the fabulous weekend I’ve just had:

On Friday (into Saturday), I had a particularly lovely date with [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine. Read more... )

Then on Saturday, after I dealt with a minor problem on my Mac, we got dressed and went to the Flea (the Fetish Fair Fleamarket, which usually happens twice a year). Read more... )

Saturday evening,[livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine and I went out to dinner at Sol, the wonderful Brazilian buffet near her place, with [livejournal.com profile] xmelancholia, her husband, and their housemate, and thence to a fabulous and wonderful birthday party, with a spy theme. Read more... ) It was really nice to get the time with [livejournal.com profile] xmelancholia, and especially nice to finally meet her husband, who is a sweetie.

On Sunday, I availed myself of the buffet [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine and I had discovered in the mall, did a little bit of window-shopping, and then came home and did some cleaning. I didn’t accomplish nearly as much as I’d hoped to, but I’m a bit less likely to trip over things in my office than I was before.

And today, I made my first trip of the summer to Canobie Lake Park, an amusement park in southern New Hampshire, with [livejournal.com profile] eisa and [livejournal.com profile] maeveenroute. We had a great time. Read more... ) On my way to the car after ice cream, I had a great phone call with my mother. When I got home, I got to chat a bit with [livejournal.com profile] docorion, who had a highly productive weekend around the house, and now it’s almost time for me to go to bed.
Sorry about the length — it’s been a very full weekend!

Kala arrived Saturday evening, and it's been wonderful having her here. Unfortunately she's been getting over an illness (which she thinks is sinusitis at this point :-( ), and between that and the timing of her arrival we didn't make it to a Solstice party we'd talked about going to. But we've been having a great time; it's so good to have her here!

On Sunday, I made it to the Flea for a bit, and then went out to a yummy dinner. Didn't get much at the Flea; I kept looking at stuff and thinking, well, this is nice, but I already have one. :-) It was a great time, though, and dinner afterwards was lovely.

I forget whether it was Sunday or Monday that Kala and I watched Drowning Mona, one of my favourite comedies.

On Tuesday, we went to the Diesel and ended up going to Martsa's on Elm for dinner with [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, [livejournal.com profile] ragingamazon, and [livejournal.com profile] rosif3r. Yay for sweeties meeting each other and liking each other. (Also yay for amazing yummy food!)

On Wednesday I got together with [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, and we had a very fun philosophical discussion (inspired by a phone conversation she was having with [livejournal.com profile] quinnclub), and she showed me Harvey (which we didn't quite finish because we got a late start, but she lent it to me to finish on my own).

I'm not sure what the plan is for tonight, but tomorrow (Thursday) Kala and I are going to the MFA (using my membership for the first time since I got it more than six months ago). I'm looking forward to that. Maybe I'll show her my office, too, since it's just across the street.

Life is good.

As K—— and I plan this weekend, I’m wondering what stretches of time folks are expecting to be at the Flea.

(It’s been a joyful visit so far!)

There are some really weird fetishes on this planet. (Also some really poor Photoshop artists.)

I'm back home safe and sound, if groggy. I got on the plane last night at 10:00pm HST, and got off this morning at 4:00pm EDT. Didn't get much sleep, but that'll help me get to bed “early” according to my biological clock and get back on a normal schedule (which will allow me to get to Seafarers of Catan on time :-).

So yesterday morning I popped in the pool for a bit, packed, popped in the pool again with Tigris, and then went to the HawaiiPAL barbecue (where Tom met us, having just gotten off of work). The barbecue is on the waterfront, with lots of sailboats for Tom to ogle. Was nice hanging out and chatting with people; a nice relaxed, low-key end to the trip.

Then Tom and Tigris took me to the airport and we said our sad goodbyes until the next time.

It was a fabulous trip, and I can’t wait until the next one. Visiting them in Honolulu is really different from visiting them in Kona, because in Honolulu, they’re a part of a much denser social network. And Honolulu is just really cool. :-) Pictures will be forthcoming when I become conscious enough to sort and annotate them.

(BTW, I’m almost done with Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, which Tigris and Tom had given me some time ago and which I started on the plane when I left Boston. I like Gaiman a lot.)

Games

Last night (my last full day here) we had a bunch of Tom and Tigris' friends over for games. At peak, I think there were about 15 or 16 people here.

Unfortunately, I was very tired -- partly due to staying up very late the night before and being awoken by the dogs across the street early that morning, and partly (I think) due to allergies -- so I didn't actually learn any new games. We started off (when there weren't a whole lot of people there yet) with Smart Mouth, which [livejournal.com profile] zzbottom and [livejournal.com profile] missdimple had introduced me to and I had gotten for Tom and Tigris. Then I watched a game of Frag for a while. Frag is a board game based on first-person shooters like Quake or Doom or Ultima -- complete with cards like "System Upgrade: New Joystick" that improve your ability to turn the other players into red-ink-on-cardboard chunks. It's very silly, and it looked fun. Then I joined a game of Frank's Zoo, a card game based loosely on the food chain where the cards are animals. (Little fish are eaten by big fish, which are eaten by seals, which are eaten by polar bears, and so on. Only the wily fox can eat the prickly hedgehog, and nobody beats an orca except for two orcas.)

It was a lot of fun, and it was neat to see lots of people I'd already met, to sort of get a feeling of community and continuity to my trips here. Tigris was still up and playing games with the last few people here when I went to bed. (Tom had gone to bed, because he works today at 6:00am.)

I'm not quite sure what the plans for today are, but possibilities include an Arabian Night's Entertainment (a fundraiser for someone's medical bills) with storytelling, tea, and belly dancing, and a HawaiiPAL barbecue. Then I need to get to the airport for my 10:00pm flight. (A very civilized hour to get on a plane, although I worry what I'm going to feel like when I get back in Boston.)

Looking forward to seeing my Boston friends and community again. Not looking forward to leaving here. You know, it would make my life simpler if y'all would just up and move here all together! But some people just can't be bothered to think of others, I suppose. :-)
