2003-06-16 16:24For the benefit of those several of you who care, aq.org's net connection is down at the moment. (This also affects polyboston.org.) One of my tenants was kind enough to power-cycle the DSL modem this morning, but it came back for about 10min and immediately died again, and she doesn't seem to be home any more. I have submitted a tech support request with my ISP, but haven't heard back yet. (I'm guessing even if they fix the root cause, I won't get net back until somebody can physically power-cycle the DSL modem.) Unfortunately I need to stay at work kind of late today, but I should be home by 8:00 or so (or maybe our nice tenant will come home and get the message and power-cycle the box before then).

Date: 2003-06-16 22:31 (UTC)I got a very helpful Speakeasy tech-support person on the phone while the line was down, and he decided it was a line quality ("environmental factors") issue, and bumped it to Covad. (Speakeasy is my ISP; Covad is the company they buy their DSL lines from. Covad, in turn, leases the actual wire and space for equipment from Verizon. I dearly hope this whole thing does not end up involving Verizon.)
Anyway, tomorrow morning I should know a little more about where Covad thinks the problem is. In the meantime (as you can tell by the fact that I'm posting this), I've got net for the moment. Lets hope that lasts for a while (but fails when Covad is watching :-).
