FYI, I won’t be doing the latest crush meme because the terms of service are scary. (I noticed that a couple days ago, but was reminded of it this morning by yendi in this post, where he quotes ’em in a comment.) Mind, I was stupid enough to participate in the crush meme that went around a year or so ago, where the person who set it up later offered to sell the names.

If you want to know whether I have a crush on you, just ask; I don’t tend to be shy. Or put up your own web form and make it clear that I can trust you. :-)

A form where people can list which of their LJ friends they have crushes on. The claimed theory seems to be that if people have a mutual crush, the site will tell them (but they reserve the right to publish the information). The last time one of these went around, though, the initial claim was that the site would just report statistics -- how many of your friends have a crush on you, that sort of thing -- and, I think, mutual crushes. Then a few months later the guy who set it up offered to sell anyone the lists of people that people had crushes on.

Whatever happened to people just saying they have a crush on someone? I've crushes on several of my lj and irl friends, if I thought they would want to know I'd tell them :)

This is an object lesson. Don't give out information you don't want other people to see without reading the fine print.
