My sister, on the other hand, had to drop out at mile 10 due to back pain.

Hey, that was still ahead of thousands of other runners. :)

But I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I don't want to think about how upset I would be if I'd had to drop out. I hope she feels better soon. :( (Has she run a marathon before?)

She says she had a great time despite everything, and there was a #2xx runner (near elite) in the medical tent with the same injury (sciatica), so she didn't feel so bad. She hadn't run a maraton before, and found out, after getting partway through her training program and getting hit with sciatica the first time, that this particular program often results in sciatica. So she'd had to curtail her training, and knew she might not finish.

To think: I'm proud of myself for walking a mile three days a week! I can't imagine . . . Congrats, Surrealestate!
