Today’s report

THE GOOD
  • I got to sleep late.
  • I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom near her work for lunch.
  • I got my car back. The brakes work now.
  • I helped [livejournal.com profile] desiringsubject and [livejournal.com profile] imvfd get some data off a failing hard drive.
  • Having gotten my car back, I was able to run some errands I’d had pending for a while.
THE BAD
  • Having slept late, I got a later start to the day than I had planned to, and didn’t get a bunch of stuff done around the house that I had meant to.
  • My ankle — actually, my foot this time; the pain has moved — has become problematic again.
  • I did an awful lot of walking before I called and found out that my brakes were done.
  • Some of this walking was back and forth on what I thought was [livejournal.com profile] imvfd’s and [livejournal.com profile] desiringsubject’s street, before giving up and taking a cab to the garage that had just told me I could retrieve my car. (I later figured out that I had been on the wrong street, and that was why the street numbers made no sense. If I try to tell anybody that the hormones are making me less st00pid, please remind me of this fact.)
  • I felt slightly rushed all day.
THE UGLY
  • Yesterday’s high in Boston was 89°F (about 32°C). I suspect today’s high was higher. Right now, several hours after dark, the temperature is 83°F. Those of you who live in habitable warm places need to understand what the humidity is like. And the pollen. If I lived in Antarctica, it would be the middle of the winter right now! Sorry, everbody, I love you all, but the penguins call.

I'm with you on Antarctica. At 4:00 PM yesterday I checked the weather website and it was 95 degrees with high humidity. I don't know how I made it to rehearsal, but I had to tell everyone not to hug me because I was so sweaty. Lets set sail for igloo country! :-)

And I love you too, but the only words that spring to mind (with reference to anyone who complains about Boston heat and humidity) are "Cry me a fucking river." Come see us in Tokyo during the rainy season, daintyboy, and then tell me how bad the humidity is up Boston way.

Sorry. I had a very bad day.

[livejournal.com profile] scholargipsy speaks the truth. I've been in Tokyo in August, and I have to admit that Boston knows nothing of the true humidity that exists elsewhere on this earth. The worst of it was being a big, sweaty, probably-smelly, dripping wet Caucasian in a sea of perfectly comfortable and dry Japanese.

Shit, it's true. I'm schvitzing to beat the band, and they're all powder-fresh. Embarrassing.

I love Japan, but when I'm there I feel like a physical pariah. My sweating, my freckles, my size (which is absolutely average in America, but is plus-size in Japan). Men pay me no attention there, and I've heard the same from some absolutely gorgeous non-Asian women who spent years there without a date. I'm sure I'll go back someday, but it'll be in late Autumn or winter, so I can at least avoid the soggy sweating problem.

After getting back to a place with reasonable climate (i.e., very very low humidity) for a while, I am not looking forward to becoming reacquainted with Boston's entirely unreasonable climate (though it beats the Midwest). (The highs here have been mid-90s for over a week.)

He. Hehe. It was 96 degrees out here yesterday. At least you all get some sort of sea breeze.

But hey, at least we don't live in Tokyo! I've heard that from others too.

brakes, heat

Sounds as though you may have a little worse than our part
of the Midwest, at least recently. Temp only to low 90s,
but moist.
As for the car, remember the line from the John Muir VW book:
Of all human abilities, one of the most undervalued is the
ability to stop.
