So, I was interested to notice recently that flags are again flying at full-staff. (Evidently, this happened at the end of January 25, but I didn’t notice until today.) I had been starting to wonder whether Ford’s period of mourning would last longer than his presidency.

I think they have a set period of time (a month perhaps) that flags are suppost to be half-mast.

Yeah, Bunny and I were wondering about whether there was a standard schedule for half-staffing, based on the length of Ford's recognition. I forgot to Wikipedia it until I saw this post today.

There is a standard for how many days the flag flies at half-mast, but it still has to be declared by the president or governor.

The standards:

- Thirty days after the death of a president or former president

- Ten days after the death of a vice president, the chief of justice or a retired chief of justice or the speaker of the house of representatives.

- Until the burial of an associate justice of the Supreme Court, secretary of a military department, a former vice president, or the governor of a state, territory, or possession.

- On the day of and the day after the death of a member of Congress.

Yeah, and Google told me that Reagan got the full 30 days, but Nixon only got a week. (My memory failed me, but I think I'd have remembered if Nixon got a whole 30 days.)

Funny. That's the FIRST thing I noticed when we were driving from the airport. I guess seeing an American flag, regardless of the position on the mast, would get my attention these days.
