Perspective

I know events in the world seem depressing these days, but things aren't so bad if you put them in the proper perspective. After all, six billion years from now or so, the Earth will be a red-hot, airless, sterile ball of rock spiralling in towards its utter destruction in the bowels of a swollen, red, dying sun. There, now, don't you feel better?

No. I want it to happen 5 billion, 999 million, 999 thousand, 999 years, 11 months, and 29 or so days sooner than your estimate. Tomorrow would be good for me.

I know things look bleak, but there are still rainbows, babies, friends and love in the world. Until all of that disappears, there are reasons to get up in the morning.

I saw that! Yes, you should give it a try...especially on a sunny morning. It's a whole new world that you're missing!

But look how far we've come! Just a few billion years ago the Earth was a red-hot, airless, sterile ball of rock accreting from impurities in the formless interstellar hydrogen...
