i don't know. i think maybe if someone was threatening someone you loved, you'd do your best to stop it. and if that meant killing them, yes, you would. but i think it's more likely that you'd die to save a loved one.

right now it's the same. i'd like it to get stronger because i think you are a good person. and we usually have a good time when we hang out.

Poundcake is melancholy? Interesting. Not quite my association with poundcake. I guess it is the sort of thing you bring over to someone's house after their spouse dies or something.

I'd forgotten that! (I mean that David had stayed with us back in the Mighty Purple days. That was before sionnagh and docorion had met, but yes, docorion was at the CT poly dinner.)

I forget, did you say somebody else who had been in the band still had a stash of Be Mighty T-shirts?

You know, I know this is true (although it had been true for a couple years before I realized it), but it still surprises me when other people notice it. I was really depressed as a child, but that went away for the most part when I went to college, and for a long time I thought of myself as a really mellow, happy person. That's still sort of my mental image of myself. (And I hope to get back there.)

I've also had people tell me recently that I give off a vibe of being content, or at least of not wanting/needing anything. It's not true that I don't want/need anything, of course, but I can see me giving off that vibe. But I can also see coming off as depressed/needy. I'm not sure quite how to reconcile those two pieces of data, both of which ring true. (Of course, to some extent what I should be working on is the stuff inside, not necessarily the presentation. Although, you know, maybe a bow and some glitter...)

i think you'd like to, but it wouldn't be a conventional marriage.

I almost left this question out, but then decided I'd have fun making fun of anybody who said "yes". And darnit, you answered in a clever way that means I can't do that! :-)

right now it's the same. i'd like it to get stronger because i think you are a good person. and we usually have a good time when we hang out.

Yeah! I had a great time that time you and I and treacle_well ended up at Redbones; we should repeat that sometime! I haven't made as much effort to get together since school started 'cause I know how busy you've been, but I'd love to do some more hanging out.

Montly polyboston announcements? :-) I don't think there are particular things that remind me of you. I just think of you at random.

A month or more of unbridled lust fulfilled with the people of your choice. Several long trips to the countries of your choice. (This is a wimpout answer, because I think you mentioned some specific places you'd like to visit in a recent conversation, and I don't remember the particulars.)

possibly stronger, but mostly staying the same. I'd be interested in changing that, though I gotta admit that I'm pretty lethargic when it comes to friendship building.

I think you'd listen under any circumstances, but I think circumstances would determine the likelihood of me talking. I can tend toward heavy reserve in order to avoid clueless imposition.

I don't know, myself. Trying to figure that out. I know a lot more about it than I did a year or three ago, though.

No, but I'm not sure why I think that.

Maybe because marriage is a tool of the imperialist Western heteropatriarchal oppressors. :-) I'm saying that as a joke, but honestly I have some of those associations with it. It bothered me that my parents were married as a child; I had a hard time reconciling it with my mother's feminist ideals. I probably wouldn't have felt that way if my parents' marriage were less traditional, but my father worked outside the house and got paid, and my mother stayed at home and cooked and cleaned and did laundry and took care of the kids and sanded the floors and painted the walls and repaired the ceiling and took care of the lawn and so on. And the other marriages I saw were similar. The people I saw who were living together (mostly my father's grad students) had very different and more egalitarian relationships, so even though that really probably had more to do with life stages and with generational differences, as a child I associated the power- and gender-dynamics with marriage itself. I know it's not that way in everybody's marriage, but it's hard to overcome associations you learn so young and so deeply, especially when there's some basis for them.

I have to say, though, my feelings about marriage will become less negative when same-sex couples can do it too.

possibly stronger, but mostly staying the same. I'd be interested in changing that, though I gotta admit that I'm pretty lethargic when it comes to friendship building.

Well, I really enjoyed our brunch together, and as I said in my reply to nex0s' comment, I had a great time that time the three of us ended up at Redbones; we should repeat both of those some time.
