Yesterday

“... all my troubles seemed so far away!” Actually, yesterday was lovely. Spring returned after a few days’ absence, and I slept late and spent some time unpacking and tidying up. Then I had a lovely time with cathijosephine and darxus watching V for Vendetta at the local second-run movie theater and having dinner at my house (crockpot Kalua pig, which I expect to be making a lot of), after which cathijosephine stayed to watch one of her favourite movies with me, There’s No Business Like Show Business

Tonight I’m going to be in my first photo shoot, for a “Men in Skirts” project that ragingamazon is doing.

How is V for Vendetta? I've heard mixed things about it. I recently bought the book adaption which I like alot but I'm nervious to watch the movie because it so rarely lives up to the book.

I really like it. The movie has some distinct differences from the book (I’m assuming you mean the comic book, right?). For instance, the “bad guys” in the book are a bit more ambiguous in their motives, at least some of them are. Chancellor Sutler in the movie is a more one-dimensional, autocratic dictator than Chancellor Susan in the book (who is more a cog in a machine, like a Soviet leader). Some things in the movie were toned down from the book. The book makes a bigger point of V’s anarchism (although having read the book I had no problem seeing that in the movie).

I understand (from Wikipedia’s articles on the comic and the movie) that Alan Moore was unhappy with the way the book was turned into a movie. In particular, he felt like it was inappropriate to co-opt a graphic novel written as a response to Thatcherism and turn it into a movie that seems more directly a response to the Bush régime (but that is still set in England, and so mutes its criticism of the buds of US totalitarianism). But I loved the book, and loved the movie, and felt like the movie was reasonably true to the spirit of the book. I wish everybody in North America, Europe, and Russia would see the movie.
