So I finally finished Oliver Twist last night, which I'd started on my last trip to Hawai'i. I really enjoyed the language and the descriptions of early 19th-century London. I did not enjoy the anti-Semitism. Granted, Dickens portrayed lots of the Christians in the book in pretty loathsome terms, too, but they weren't constantly identified as "the Christian". I've only read this book and A Christmas Carol; does Dickens have any sympathetic Jewish characters in his novels?

Yay, now I can start on Master and Commander.

My stomach bug, which I'd thought was completely gone yesterday, came back today, (although not nearly as bad). Tiresome, though.

The Poly Boston discussion here was very well attended! So I found a topic that brings people out. That was cool.

And I'm tired and it's time for me to go to bed. :-)

One of these days I have to make one of the PolyBoston discussions....Being a Mom and living in NH makes that a challenge at times!
I feel like there are a lot of cool people I could get to know that I dont' really know in the Boston Poly community.

I hope you can make it some time! If you don't think he'd be too bored, I'd have no problem with you bringing your son to most of the events at my house. (The safer-sex and romantic safety ones I'm planning for the next couple months might not be ideal, though, because I expect them to be pretty crowded.)

I just finished Master & Commander and have started The Far Side of the World. M&C was worth reading, though it definitely took some wading -- I think one of those guidebooks to the world of Jack Aubrey would have come in very handy. So far, TFSotW is easier going, though; maybe I'm adjusting?
