Hi. I’m about to prune my lj Friends list. If I take you off, it’s not because I don’t love you any more or don’t want you to read my protected entries, it’s just that I’ve had to mess with my friends groups lately (creating new groups and changing old ones), and the more people I have on my Friends list, the more tedious that is. (Actually, if anybody knows of Unix or OSX software that makes managing custom friends groups easier, I’d be interested in hearing about it. What I’d like is a grid with all my Friends down one side, and all my custom friends groups along the top, filled with checkboxes, so I could compare at a glance who was in what group and compare the memberships of different groups. Extra points if it let me change the ordering of the custom friends groups, so I could put two columns I wanted to be similar-but-not-identical next to each other.)

Anyway, the reason I’m posting this is (1) to let you know that it’s not personal if I take you off the list; it’s just about convenience, and (2) so that if I take you off, but you actually would like to be able to read my protected posts, you can let me know so I can add you back on. (I’m guessing most of the people I’m going to take off don’t read me anyway, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.)

[Edit: I’ve just done that pruning, so if you can still read this locked entry you are in no imminent danger of not being able to read my seekrit stuff.]

Just FYI, I use the Default View to reduce the clutter in my F-page... Something to think about.

I read you, though I don't think I was actually on the list, in which case I clearly can't have been pruned.

I agree with the difficulty of managing friends groups. I wonder how hard it would be to hack something together, seeing as how I'm snowed in today and all. *goes off to read LJ developer documentation*

I read you too but now I'm locked out.

Please would you re-add me again as a friend? Pretty please with organic whipped cream and fair trade certified sugar on the top?

I read you, but understand if you'd like to keep me pruned, seeing as how we haven't actually, you know, technically met.

Well, while my LJ name might be Chellen, you may have heard me referred to as 'Winter' by Dan4th and Dabunny. In fact, I'll actually be up there visiting them soon.

I read you! Even though I've been offline for a few days... And yes, I know you haven't a clue who I am, but I found you because of queenofhalves' blog.

Oh, and you're hot. Has anyone told you that lately? *grin* (Happy almost Valentines day)

Well there is your writing style, and of course your sacraments if you were a god, those are good, and then there's this awesome photo: Image

I use iJournal for managing my friends list. Though it has corrupted it in the past, so make sure you get the latest version. I also find that the AJAX features of the friends management software on www.livejournal.com itself work better with Firefox.

As far as "Default View" and stuff... I have a "friends I read" group and a "Friends I read if I have a lot of time" group. People can only be on one or the other. I don't think I've actually used the second in ages, but it is psychologically comforting to put people on that second list than to remove them completely (for me at least)

I don't understand the etiquette around "friends" on LJ. People ask if they can "friend" me. It doesn't affect me if they do, why should I care. And if someone never gets friend-ed back, I hope they don't are either :). Oh well.

yes, I read you.

I'm using the beta now but I can't remember if I've edited friends lately.

A grid would be the perfect UI. I haven't seen that anywhere yet.

Thank you. I am honored that you didn't prune me. I would completely understand if you did, since I don't tend to comment or even read very often. But I do really appreciate being able to hear what you have to say when I do get the chance to catch up. I love your perspective on life. *smile* It is refreshing.
