Quick househunting update
Saw a unit in Zeph’s building yesterday (Tuesday). It’s ostensibly a 1BR, but really more the size of a studio. I could live there but I don’t think I’d be happy.
Today I saw two condos. One was huge for the money they were asking, and was a 2BR, so I could get a housemate if money became tight. But it was pretty far from Quincy Center (and thus the T and Zeph).
The other one was across the street from the back entrance to Zeph’s building, and insanely close to the T. I would walk out the front door of the building, cross the street, walk down some concrete steps, walk about fifteen yards along a little sidewalk, cross the street, and go down the steps of the T station. And although it’s a 1BR, it’s a great size. As soon as I get a chance to talk to my mortgage broker and work out some numbers, I want to make an offer.
That would so rock. I’d be almost as close to Zeph as I would have been in the too-small apartment in her building.
Now I’m falling-down tired, so goodnight all!

LR - living room
DR - dining room
W/D - washer/dryer
EIK - eat-in kitchen (meaning a kitchen that you can also use as a dining room)
(and in real-estate advertising "bathroom" is usually shortened to "bath"). I don't know if these abbreviations are specific to the US and Canada or if they're also used in other English-speaking countries.
Yes, rent (and cost to purchase real estate) is very high in the Boston area. I'd say Boston, New York City, and San Francisco are probably the most expensive cities in the US for housing costs.
Quincy (where I'm looking) is a suburb south of Boston, but still on Boston's public-transit system. Prices there are a lot lower than in the other parts of the Boston area that I've lived. And in general in the US over the last few decades real estate prices have been going up quite a lot. (That works to my advantage for selling our current house, of course. Our current house is in Malden, which is a suburb about as far north of Boston as Quincy is south. Real estate prices in Malden have gone up very steeply already, while I think real estate prices in Quincy are just starting to. So hopefully I'm selling in Malden at the right time, and buying in Quincy at the right time.)
What are housing prices and real estate purchase prices like in Russia? Is there a lot of variation across the country, as there is in the United States, or are housing costs pretty similar everywhere except in the big cities?

I had the impression that parts of Hawai'i were also up there.

Moscow
As for the prices: in the center it is very high, like 3-7 thousand US $ per month(what about Boston?) at the perifery it is like 300-400 US$/month.
