I don’t have time to write much, but Tuesday was too lovely not to get at least a quick summary. Showed up at the Diesel, and I didn’t stay long, but I stayed long enough to catch brief sightings of the elusive and marvellous [livejournal.com profile] wispfox and the slightly less elusive but no less marvellous [livejournal.com profile] zzbottom. I would have loved to hang out more with [livejournal.com profile] wispfox and [livejournal.com profile] eisa, but I already had dinner plans: [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, [[livejournal.com profile] mrpet, who didn’t yet have a journal when I posted this], and I went to the Helmand, a wonderful Afghani restaurant a couple blocks from the Cambridgeside Galleria and probably one of my five favourite restaurants in the Boston area. Yum! I had their yummy pumpkin appetizer (kaddo) and lamb kebab which was exquisitely spiced. Then we went to [livejournal.com profile] ragingamazon’s and got to look at her impressive snake photos. She drove us back to Davis Square (it was close to 11:30 by then) and I drove sweet sleepy [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine home. A delightful evening.

PS – On the way back from dropping [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine off, I noticed that the Citgo sign in Kenmore has been restored! All the neon tubes light up now, and they even flash on and off in the right order. That’s kind of cool, but weird!

Yay Helmande! One of the sister-restaurants is in Baltimore and J and I had been going there for years. We were so happy to find that the one in Boston has the exact same selection. Down to the font on the menus.

I really enjoyed the Helmand. They have a great selection of vegetarian food, which is nice, if you care about those sorts of things.

This (http://www.helmand.com/index.htm) looks like the home page for the Helmand in Baltimore, but there is no mention of other locations on the site. It seems like there is also a Helmand in San Francisco (http://www.inetours.com/Pages/Dining_Archive/The_Helmand.html)...

I wonder what "Helmand" means in Afghani? It could all be an incredible coincedence... :)

I think it's a region in Afghanistan, but I'm not sure.

Ah yes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmand_province). And here (http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/H/Helmand.asp). Perhaps the region is famous for its food.

The Baltimore locale has everything the Boston locale does, including the name. Pretty interesting.

And delicious. ;)
