This morning listening to the BBC on the way in to work, I discovered that the new European Union constitutional treaty being signed in Rome specifies Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" as the European national [!?] anthem. This fills me with unaccountable happiness. That's one piece of music that I've long thought really cried out to be a national anthem.
