I’ve been horribly remiss about posting lately. (Not so good about keeping track of email, either.) But I want to at least mention some of what I’ve been up to.

First I'll mention the bad: A lot of people in my life are going through very rough things lately. (I know of two people who have lost parents recently, for instance.) I’m doing pretty well, but it’s left me in a kind of odd headspace from time to time, particularly since there often isn’t much I can do.

[livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom and I have done some really really fun things: On Saturday the 15th we went up to Funspot in New Hampshire, which [livejournal.com profile] zzbottom introduced me to a while back, and squandered our misspent youths playing classic video games and pinball machines. Space Invaders! Pac Man! Battle Zone! Frogger! Asteroids! (And they have hundreds and hundreds of others, including some a bit more recent and even a few older ones like an arcade version of Pong.) We had a great time.

The next morning, I put a wildflower from my garden in her hair. :-)

This past Wednesday, we saw Wicked at the stunningly ornate and gorgeous Boston Opera House (photos). We had a blast! We had great seats and had lots of fun. [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom had seen it before on Broadway, but I’d never seen it and wasn’t familiar with the music. (She says that one of the benefits of having a bisexual boyfriend is that sometimes he’ll come to musical theater with you. :-)

We also saw the Simpsons movie at the second-run theater near [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom’s house in Davis Square.

I feel like there were also some particularly yummy meals in there, too, but I don’t remember details too clearly.

I’ve also had a couple dinners (and some good conversation and a couple of pints of dark liquid at our favourite Irish pub in Quincy) with [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine.

I feel like there’s been other fun social stuff since I’ve posted last, but I need to take off and get dinner.

Oh, and two awesome things to look forward to: The birthday Utilikilt that many of my friends contributed to and [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom handled the ordering of is finally here! (The company was moving their manufacturing facilities when [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom ordered it, so it took a lot longer than normal.) It’s at her house, and I get to pick it up when I see her on Sunday! Huge thanks to all of you who contributed! I’ll thank you individually when I get the card and have the full list in front of me. My friends rock!

And the other awesome thing is that next month [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom and I are meeting my sister and brother in law [livejournal.com profile] bcat1 and [livejournal.com profile] spacechicken in DC! I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned this here or not, but [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom won Amtrak tickets in a drawing the last time she took the train to visit her family, and we decided to go enjoy all the museums in Washington, and it occurred to me that, well, Washington is a lot closer to Raleigh than Boston is, and yay! [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom and my sister and brother in law get to meet! And I get to see them for the first time in far too long. (Need to figure out a time for a visit all the way to North Carolina sometime before too long.)

The other awesome thing is that in probably less than six hours I will be well fed and asleep! I’m so excited!

(Hmmm, so this is what happens when I just dash off a few words in a hurry. Not that different from when I write an essay. This post does distinguish itself in not having any footnotes, though.)

Do they have a lot of pinball machines? I've been trying to find some to play in this area to no avail.

Yes! They have tons of pinball machines. I played lots of them, including a totally excellent Star Trek Next Generation one, and the classic Fireball which my dad owned in the 1970s that as a child I developed leet skillz on. I've still got it!

I can't wait to give you your kilt, sweetie! And I hope you request another one for a future birthday so I can renew my fun phone relationship with the cool staff at Utilikilt! :-)

Mmmmmm, utilikilt. Boys in kilts good.

Need to figure out a time for a visit all the way to North Carolina sometime before too long.

I will look forward to that. Yay for new friends!

I'm glad you're having so many different kinds of fun!

I return to the US on October 11th -- are you available on the 13th or any time shortly there after? It's been a long time since I've seen your face.

I was gonna say that February was a generally awful time in NC 'cause it tends to be so cold and cloudy. And then I remembered you live in Boston. So, uh, never mind. Come on down, and bring your shorts. *I'll* be wearing my long, heavy winter coat, but I reckon cold is relative.

(I threw in the Southern lingo there for no extra charge.)

Excellent. Perhaps there could be a group outing there sometime.

Well, I know how you love car trips, so I think I won't try for the weekend. Please sign me up for the 17th -- details to be finalized when we're in the same time zone. :-)
