Happy birthday to a nifty [livejournal.com profile] ratatosk! Hope it’s fun and fabulous!

In other news, since I last posted last night, another pipe has burst (well, “burst” is maybe the wrong word; the ice pressure forced apart a weld, so the pipe just came apart in segments). Fun. After much franticness (during which of course I turned off the water to the whole house) I managed to find a valve which almost shuts off off the water to that pipe, so it’s had a bucket under it all night. (That valve also shuts off water to the toilet. Fortunately, we have a bucket conveniently nearby – underneath the sink – so we can still flush.)

I will be very happy when the plumber arrives.

On the bright side, our second-floor tenants’ kitchen pipes were frozen all day yesterday, and appear to have thawed without major incident. This means that their extremely friendly and enthusiastic dog will not have to demonstrate how very very much she loves the plumber.

First of all, it is my understanding that [livejournal.com profile] docorion will be at the Diesel tonight.

Second of all, I’m sorry that general chaos lately (but good chaos until yesterday’s plumbing disaster) prevented me from wishing [livejournal.com profile] ponderingpetal and [livejournal.com profile] spwebdesign happy birthday in a timely fashion.

And thirdly, the plumbers just left (after spending quite a while here) and WE HAVE WORKING SINKS AGAIN! They also found a very badly corroded pipe that will need to be replaced very soon, but which fortunately just feeds our outside faucets and can be temporarily isolated until we get around to that, and made some useful suggestions that might decrease the frequency with which the pilot light blows out. So it was a very useful day. Now (having decided that there wasn’t going to be enough of me for work today) I need to do some more snow clearing and car adjustment and then maybe take a nap to make up for being up late yesterday dealing with the remainder of the plumbing problems which happened after I posted last night.

TGIT!
